We Can Provide Emergency Dental Care in Glen Huntly

Dental problems rarely turn up at a convenient time, and it’s hard to think about anything else when a tooth is throbbing or broken. When it happens, it helps to have a local dentist you can call.

At The Centre for Advanced Dentistry, our dentists Dr Vishal Gupta, Dr Henna Kainth, and Dr Linda Steinberg provide emergency dental care from our clinic at 1064 Glen Huntly Road. At your appointment, we’ll examine the tooth and explain your treatment options before anything goes ahead.

Which Dental Emergencies can our Glen Huntly Dentists treat?

Our emergency dental clinic in Glen Huntly treats urgent dental problems for adults and children.

Severe toothache & dental pain

Ongoing or throbbing tooth pain is often caused by decay or an inflamed nerve. We’ll find the cause with an examination and X- rays, then recommend treatment such as a filling or root canal treatment. We take a minimal intervention approach and aim to preserve your natural teeth wherever we can.

Broken or cracked teeth

A chipped or cracked tooth can feel sharp against your tongue
and sensitive to hot and cold. Smaller breaks can often be
repaired with tooth-coloured composite bonding in a single
visit, while a larger break may need a crown to protect the
remaining tooth. If the break happened in a fall or sporting
accident, we’ll also take X-rays to check for damage below the
gumline.

Dental abscess & infection

Swelling in your gum or face and a bad taste in your mouth can point to an infection. We’ll treat the source of the infection, which may involve root canal treatment or removing the tooth, and let you know if you also need antibiotics.

Knocked-out or loose teeth

Time matters when an adult tooth is knocked out in a fall or
sporting accident. A tooth that has been loosened by a knock
may need to be checked with an X-ray and held in place while
the area heals.

Lost fillings, crowns or restorations

A lost filling or crown leaves the tooth underneath exposed and more likely to break or become sensitive. Bring the crown with you if you still have it, and we’ll check the tooth and either refit or replace the restoration.

Dental injuries & trauma

Falls and sporting accidents can damage teeth and gums in ways you can’t always see. We’ll examine the area and take X- rays where needed to check for damage below the gumline.

When Can I See an After- Hours Dentist in Glen Huntly?

Our Glen Huntly clinic is open until 8 pm every Tuesday, with evening appointments for dental problems that come up during the day. This gives you the option of booking in after work or school if a tooth starts hurting earlier in the day.

If a problem starts overnight, the clinic opens at 8.30 am on Mondays and Thursdays, so you can call first thing and speak to our team about an appointment.

You can also book online at any time, including outside opening hours. When you book, mention that it’s a dental emergency and give a short description of the problem, so our team knows what to prepare for before you arrive.

Why Patients Choose our Emergency Dental Care

Care designed around your comfort

Dental pain can make anyone anxious. During treatment you can wear Bluetooth headphones and watch the ceiling-mounted screen above the dental chair to help take your mind off things.

Clear explanations before treatment

We'll explain what we've found and the cost of your treatment options before we begin, so you can make an informed decision.

A clinic built for all abilities

Our purpose-built clinic has lift access and wide walkways, so patients with limited mobility can get in and out comfortably. Some treatments can be carried out while patients stay in their wheelchair.

Dental scans on site

Our Glen Huntly clinic has OPG and CBCT scanners, so if we need a detailed X-ray or 3D scan of an injured or infected tooth, you won't have to travel elsewhere to have it taken. For crowns and other restorations, an intraoral scanner captures 3D images of your teeth without traditional impressions.

Your Health Fund Could Help With Eligible Dental Treatment

If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be able to claim part of the cost of your emergency treatment. We process all major health fund claims on the spot through HICAPS, so you only pay the gap.

C4AD is a preferred provider for HCF and the More for Teeth program. We also accept CDBS, DVA, VGDS and VEDS vouchers for eligible patients.

If you’d like to spread the cost of treatment, flexible payment options are available through Afterpay. Out-of-pocket costs depend on the treatment you need and your level of cover.

Need Urgent Dental Care in Glen Huntly?

Swelling in your face or gum and a knocked-out adult tooth both need urgent dental care. So does pain that keeps you awake at night. If swelling spreads to your eye or neck, or you have trouble breathing or swallowing, go to your nearest hospital emergency department or call 000.

A small chip with no pain, or a lost filling that isn’t sensitive, is less urgent, but it’s still worth booking in. Book online or call during opening hours to arrange an appointment with our Glen Huntly dentists, who see patients from Glen Huntly and nearby suburbs including Carnegie, Caulfield, Malvern and Brighton.

FAQ

During a dental emergency, call your dentist as soon as the clinic is open and describe what happened, so they can advise you and book an appointment. In the meantime, a cold compress against the outside of your cheek can help with swelling, and over-the-counter pain relief taken as directed on the packet may ease the pain. If a tooth has broken or a filling has come out, rinse gently with warm water, keep any pieces and avoid chewing on that side.

If an adult tooth is knocked out, pick it up by the crown (the white part), not the root, and rinse it briefly in milk if it’s dirty. If you can, gently place it back in the socket and bite on a clean cloth to hold it there. If that’s not possible, keep the tooth in milk and see a dentist as soon as you can. Baby teeth shouldn’t be put back in.

After-hours dental appointments are available in Glen Huntly every Tuesday until 8 pm at C4AD on Glen Huntly Road. Call (03) 8525 3973 to ask about an evening appointment.

Dental infections and abscesses are a common reason for an emergency appointment. Antibiotics can help control an infection, but the source in the tooth or gum still needs to be treated through root canal treatment or an extraction.

For an emergency dental appointment, bring your health fund card so your claim can be processed on the spot, along with a list of any medications you take. If a tooth or crown has come out, bring that with you too.

You can reduce the risk of a dental emergency with regular check-ups, which can pick up decay and worn fillings before they start to hurt. A mouthguard for contact sport helps protect your teeth from injury, and avoiding hard foods like ice and boiled lollies lowers the chance of cracking a tooth.
